"Character assassination" is more than just spreading a rumour or making a false statement about someone - it is the systematic spreading lies and half-truths with the aim of completely destroying the person's good name (character).
Is there a term in Czech that expresses this idea better than just "pomluva" or "diskreditace"?

Comment: "Not exactly a common term, but I think this expresses it best - systematic, with the aim of eliminating the other person's honour.
My context is psychology / forms of psychological abuse, so the more formal term fits.
But when I'm chatting with Honza Pivář ('Joe Sixpack') I'll go for očerňování.

I myself feel a certain difference between "očerňování" and "pomluva" - the first one sounds to me more "severe", while the other term could be - in addition to legal terminology use - also used for whatever some talkative ladies in the neighbourhood say... - the scope is slightly different, but just my subjective impression.
"Diskreditace" need not to be based strictly on lies IMHO. It can be a strategy of unveiling some "bad" news, pointing to someone's negative past, manipulation etc.

: v češtině podobný termín není, jestli to dobře chápu, jedná se o výraz ze žurnalistiky. Pokud byste chtěla překlad termínu nějak "ozvláštnit", dalo by se použít např. "úkladný" - úkladné očernění, úkladné poškození, jako assassination - úkladná vražda
