насколько могу понять, речь о фокальной плоскости:
тут в диссере господина Марчинеллы на стр. 32 читаем: "The distance image plane to lens is denoted by v.". А чуть выше, на рис. 3.6а видим, что v - ничто иное, как фокальная плоскость.

Возвращаясь к Обсуждению второго вопроса про distance MTF, через некоторое время стало понятно, что речь о мультифокальных ИОЛ. Естественно, у них мб. несколько фокусов , обычно 2-3, и, соответственно, несколько плоскостей изображения. В данном случае, судя по всему, речь о far (distance) image plane. Far - более корректное определение, принятое, в частности, в ANSI Z80.35-2018 (Annex A.5 Determination of far image plane within the model eye). Или тут:
