French term

en infragéniculé

French to English Medical Medical (general) Cardiology
Good morning/afternoon!

This is in the findings of a peripheral angiography.

I think this refers to the genicular arteries in the legs. Could it be that "infragenicular" refers to the group of genicular arteries?

Context:

En infragéniculé, les trois vaisseaux sont perméables.

The other confusing element is that there are six genicular arteries, so I'm not sure what the "three" refers to. Unless the "infra" in "infragéniculé" specifies three of the geniculars in particular?

Thanks for any light someone may be able to shed on this for me!

@ Sue- No problem - I'm glad you posted an answer - I was looking into which three arteries are considered the three main arteries supplying the lower leg, and you've answered that question : )

@ Denise - sorry! have just seen you have already suggested my answer

Thank you Ellen!

I found Phil`s Suggestion confirmed by the following: infragenicular (not comparable) 1.(anatomy) Below the knee
Denise Pavao (asker) Nov 2, 2017:
Hi Phil - that does make sense. So maybe they don't mean the genicular arteries, but rather three arteries that supply the lower leg. That would certainly make sense since the previous sentence described the popliteal.

Thank you!

Doesn't it just mean below the knee?

angiography of the anterior tibial, posterior tibial and peroneal arteries

These are three main 'infragenicular' arteries, i.e. those below the knee that supply the lower leg. I think it is likely that 'infragenicular' refers to these main arteries rather than the arteries around the knee joint.

the peroneal artery is also known as the fibular artery
