Spanish term

interior

Spanish to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation football
Text is an Iberian Spanish study on player performance according to playing position in football. The sentence is as follows:

My problem is with the term "interiores". I've seen "inside" used but I'm not convinced.

Any help gratefully received

agree Taña Dalglish : https://www.quora.com/What-are-some-must-know-football-tacti... (I found the same thing "wingers"); Wingers who move into central areas are called Interiores.

Other midfielders /left and right-sided midfielders

Here the distinction is those that are not central midfielders, and wingers in my experience are 'extremos' and would stay as wide as possible. So I would translate as above.
Peer comment(s):

agree Robert Carter : Yes to "left and right-sided midfielders". Sorry, I didn't see your answer, I think I confused it with Simon's above.

wide midfielder // right/left-sided midfielder

They're similar to wingers, and may often be loosely referred to as wingers, hence the confusion, but they are usually less explosive and generally have a more balanced defensive/attacking role than a winger would. If you know which side you are referring to, you could call the player a left/right-sided midfielder, but otherwise, I'd go for wide midfielder.

Mediocampista externo[editar]

Wide midfield[edit]
A wide midfielder (left midfield and right midfield, or generally side midfielder) (historically called left-half and right-half, or wing-half) is a midfielder who is stationed to the left or right of central midfield. Though they are often referred to as wingers, not all players in these positions are stereotypical speedy, touchline hugging players. With the advent of the modern game the traditional outside forwards known as "wingers" were pushed back to wide midfield, though still commonly referred to as wingers. As the game has developed further, some tactical formations (for example, 4–3–3) have used central midfielders deployed in a wider position to provide width, more defensive protection along the flanks and to help compress play in the opponents half. They will still support attacking play and sometimes be expected to act as a semi-winger.

David Beckham is perhaps one of the more "interiores" in recent times:

Nombre en país de origen: David Robert Joseph Beckham
...
Posición: Medio campo - Interior derecho

Beckham swiftly established himself as United's right-sided midfielder (rather than a right-winger in the style of his predecessor Andrei Kanchelskis) and helped them to win the Premier League title and FA Cup double that season

The key to the entire system revolves around the ***‘interiores’ – wingers who move into central positions*** when their side have regained possession. While the central area of the pitch features a zone of creative talent when in possession, the interiores also have a crucial defensive duty; they are required to help out down either flank as soon as the team lose the ball.

As the interiores drift inside to position themselves close to either striker, forming intricate passing triangles, the wing-backs push forward to supply natural width.
