Ellen Kraus is right. The mark on the Access Certificate is more than the pass marks on the exams. The student scores are aggregated and multiplied by a weighing factor to come up with a particular score that determines access to university. It is a system unique to Greece.

John Michalis
: would avoid the word university in the beginning as an Apolitirion could be used for entrance in a variety of institutions (e.g. college)

Yes, the access mark really only applies to Greek university admission, I would think.

Comment: "Thanks. I used the term without the university, just access score."

Entry Score
Mostly used in Australia / New Zealand, but should be understandable in the UK and US as well due to the "entry requirements" usually required by universities.

A 'Pass Mark' does, indeed define whether you pass an exam or a test BUT it also defines how an applicant is accepted to a higher Institution(College or University). A 'Pass Mark' is α cut off point above which that institution will admit you in their Courses. There are, as far as I know Greek institutions who will not accept anybody who has an aggregate mark below 15/16 twentieths in their Apoliterion. In UK English that is The 'Pass Mark'. The Americans call it 'pass grade', although 'Grade' might be denoted as 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D', 'E', or the old form of 'Pass', 'Credit'' and 'Distinction'. The later 2 are Grades, which are not so specific as saying I got 40%, or 53%, or 67%. Normally, the 'Pass Mark' was taken as 40%. The 'Pass Mark' to enter Uni. might be set at 55%. Different Unis have different standards.
