English term

discussion pasture

English to Spanish Other Education / Pedagogy A guide connected with the mentoring of new teachers
How well does the opening question motivate and energize the first discussion pasture and the class as a whole?
I think it might be something like "topic or theme " to be discussed, but I am not sure.

tema a discutir, tema a abordar

These would be the traditional ways of expressing this idea. Perhaps there's something more trendy out there, though.

la postura de discusiòn inicial

Couldn't agree more with Fernando. The word pasture does not refer to anything related to pedagogy. In the other hand, "posture" makes sense with the whole sentence's concept, as it deals with the type of first questions; teachers shall use when motivating students to start discussion or debate.

¿En qué medida, la palabra inicial motiva y energiza la primera postura de discusión, y la clase cómo un todo?

campo de debate - ámbito de estudio - contexto de discusión

Palestra del debate...

"Pasture" can be understood figurative and/or metaphorically in the sense of "field, area or context".

The double meaning of "field as an area of study" or "topic" seems obvious to me.

A "field of knowledge" would be a good definition for "pasture" here...

In other words, I agree with the specific and excellent data provided by Jessica, but I also suggest that a "pasture" can provide quite some "food for thought"... which allows one and all to ponder and "chew the cud"... ie., "ruminate"... in Spanish "rumiar"... (considerar con reflexión... un tema)

Ma, se non è vero... yo me lo creo. ;-)

alimento/elemento de discusión

Estoy de acuerdo que podría ser un error de letra y fuera "posture". Consideremos "pasture" alimento en un aspecto literario.

Transitions

Transitions provide the connective tissue that links individual discussion segments ("pastures") together to create a coherent whole. They are typically used by the instructor to provide intermediate closure and frame the subsequent discussion pasture.

agree Charles Davis : Yes indeed! Another example of how we shouldn't be too hasty to assume something is a typo just because we've never heard of it :)
