Japanese term
設定条件
Japanese to English
Tech/Engineering
Mechanics / Mech Engineering
To say 設定 as in 設定条件, do both 'set' and 'setting' work?
I wonder which 'setting conditions' or 'set conditions' is better for 'スイッチON/OFF等の機械の設定条件'. for example.
設定 can be used for 設定項目(set items/setting items?) and 設定値 (set values/setting value?).
Thank you in advance

setting conditions
Have never really heard of "set conditions"...

: Without more context it's a bit hard to say, but this may be stipulating the conditions for a setting to be enacted--in which case just "settings" could omit some meaning. I would go with "setting conditions."

Adjusting/setting the device with the ON/OFF switch, etc.
Personally I think it would depend on the overall tone and content. Setting conditions might be a little too direct and adjustment/setting might sound more natural.
You could consider using something like Adjust the device/apparatus using the ON/OFF switch, etc. or Use the ON/OFF switch, etc. to adjust/set/regulate the device depending on the context.

Settings
I think this is what it's supposed to mean - setting conditions are usually called settings.

: On second thought, there are cases when "settings" doesn't apply...

settings and conditions
On second thought, they are not always settings.
To give concrete examples of each:
turn on at 28 degrees (Setting), turn off at 26 degrees (Setting), turn off when alarm sounds (Condition), turn on when door opens (Condition), etc.
A term that works for any applicable on/off situation that I can think of is "settings and conditions."
