If you want to convey the old aspect of "swell", which is from the 20s, you can use one of these terms. In fact, they are not as old (these go back to the 60s and 70s), but you can't really find many Brazilian slangs from the 20s and, even if you did, they might be unintelligible for the current audience. For example, I found "cotuba," a "paulista" slang from the 20s meaning "bacana."
It would be then: "Tem sido supimpa/bacana/um barato!" ("Tem sido" since it's "it has been...").
