English term

Router

English to Latin Tech/Engineering
Dear all,

I am looking for an equivalent of the word "router" in Latin. This word is quite often used in Telco, but I don't have further context to provide you. Unfortunately I don't know the latin language at all, so maybe there are some kind of descriptive words for it?

Proposed translations

ductor

which may mean "guide", "pilot"
but it's really hard to guess what they would have called it!!!!!!

router ?

it's difficult to translate without knowing the exact meaning the word "router"
happens to have in Telco :)

= a robber/ruffian ?
= one who takes part in a rout ? (as in "riot/rioter")
= one who gives a rout or a reception ? (I don't think so !)
= one who routs or draws forth ?
= not a person, but a machine ? (cutter that removes wood, etc)

Retis datorum flectatrum/rectatrum/gubernatrum.

Datorum flectatrum/rectatrum/gubernatrum.

In the telecommunications environment, a ROUTER is a computer that switches data transmissions from an incoming network over to another network, so as to help forward the data to its final destination.

Therefore I would suggest, based on other Latin/Internet terminology (computatrum, for instance) the circumlocutory phrase RETIS DATORUM FLECTATRUM ("data deflector"), or RETIS DATORUM RECTATRUM ("data director"), or RETIS DATORUM GUBERNATRUM ("data director"). Until, of course, someone comes up with a better idea.
