¡Hola!

¿Cómo traduciríais "secretaría de cursos" le he dado vueltas a un par de opciones, pero ninguna me acaba de convencer.

Aparece en una de las firmas de un título universitario, firma la Directora de la Secretaría de Cursos.

You may be right. As Robert says, for practical purpose, Registrar's Office is all that is needed, an equivalent term. Your option, closer to the Spanish original, would also be valid. Perhaps I was unnecessarily particular about the exact translation. Thanks for you comments.

If you're looking for the job title... Rather than speculating about exactly what the job might entail, why not stay close to the Spanish and say "director of the course secretariat"? I think "registrar" may be correct, but it' overtranslation.

Yes, that was not part of the question, but it may be important to be able to decide whether the "Secretaría de Cursos" is really the "Registrar's Office", which is normally (in Spain) the "Secretaría" of a faculty or the university. // Before writing my first discussion entry, I visited your link to Antonio de Nebrija's univ. and it does say "Expedientes de los alumnos: mantenimiento y custodia", which is the main function of a Registrar's Office. Still, this may not be the case at the university where María Perales' document was issued. That's why I said it's not as simple as it looks, at least to me.

@ Alejandro As I understand it, the question is about the name of the office in question, not about the role/post of the "directora" of that office. Nevertheless, the signature of the head of an office responsible for maintaining student records would be perfectly valid and appropriate on an HE certificate.

Todo lo que dice Robert es correcto. Mi duda es si una "Directora de la Secretaría de Cursos" es una Secretaria. ¿Firma actas y expedientes y su sola firma basta?
Más contexto ayudaría: tipo de cursos, otras firmas en el título, tipo de título (¿título propio de la universidad? -lo más probable), incluso la universidad de que se trata (para poder comprobar en su sitio web si hay un secretaría de centro, una secretaría centralizada de la universidad y una secretaría de cursos). Quizás todo esto no importe en la traducción y "Registrar" sea suficiente y correcto, pero no es lo mismo que firme el "Registrar" o Secretario/a que otra persona con un cargo diferente, como la Directora de la Secretaría.

Secretariat for Courses /Training...I just don't like it nor have found anything like this on the internet. Besides, I preferred to leave it without any options in order to avoid people thinking in the "same direction".

This is the term used to refer to the office in universities that is in charge of enrolling students, maintaining academic records, releasing transcripts, etc. It would seem to fit perfectly here.

agree Alejandro Alcaraz Sintes : The question is tricky. "Directora de la Secretaría" is not the same position as "Secretaria" and a "Secretaría de Cursos" is not the same as "Secretaría" of, say, a faculty or school. I’ll post a discussion entry. Un abrazo. // Yes, equivalent is enough.
