I'd be grateful for any ideas on how to translate **ciudadanización**, as I'm not too happy with anything I've come up with.
La **ciudadanización** es un modo distinto de participación en la sociedad, que posibilita constituir la visibilidad y las muestras de solidaridad obtenidas por el accionar de XXX en una fuente de referencia identitaria, desarticulando la afiliación a las instituciones tradicionales de la YYY organizado como modo de pertenencia.
Both XXX and YYY belong to a minority group, and I interpret this word as becoming part of the mainstream.

"ciudadanización" (the empowerment of citizens for civic engagement) / civic engagement
The first time it's mentioned, I'd keep the Spanish term (or Matt's translation of it) in quotation marks and follow it with either of the two entries noted above or something similar. The main problem here is that it is often translated as "citizen participation" and you already have that word in the sentence.
