cacher ses informations aux autres joueurs

Non-PRO French to English Other Computers (general) multiplayer computer games
This is from a list of member advantages for a multiplayer adventure game. As I am not overly familiar with these, I can't quite grasp what sort of "informations" these might be and it's a bit vague to Google.
I'm not sure this is a PRO question, it just needs someone familiar with these virtual universes...
I'm actually correcting an existing translation, which just puts "ability to hide ones informations"...

I've got some clarification now from further pages of the French document: "Les membres ont la possibilité de ne pas partager certaines informations sur leur avatar." So it sounds as though either "details" or "information" would do it. Thanks everyone.

If only I knew! It's an internet game, true identities are concealed and no personal information is available. Could it be information relating to things like how much food and water the player has left, how many clones they have..? does this seem likely?

Actually, I'm not sure. Is the game played on the Internet, thereby providing players with the option to conceal their true identity? It's difficult to say without further details. Or, is it a computer game played on X-Box, PS2 or PS3 or Nintendo?

Without further information, at first glance, it is simply stating that the option is available to hide your information from the other players. Whether that is your strategic moves, your profile, your data, further clarification is required.

I have a friend who is working (well, playing, actually!) in just this sort of environment, and he explains how they 'gang up' on each other and sneakily keep secres from other players.

I don't think it specifically matters what this actual 'information' is, but please note that 'information' is more usually used as a non-countable collective noun in EN, and also that 'details' might be a better way of getting round the issue — nothing wrong with 'the details of their game'

Well, Susan, maybe you could make it unambiguous if you used 'game details'; but if we know for sure that it isn't personal details, then why not stick with 'information' — though I still feel it needs something like 'game information' to make it read smoothly to me....

Thank you, I think inside info is what is needed. Yes, informations... the translation I'm correcting has quite a few Gallicisms of the sort. There might be a slight hitch with "details", as I understand it personal details have to be confidential, so it must be game-oriented information - it's important not to give the impression that personal details might become available.

Thanks, Anne-Marie! Personally, i feel that it is probably something more tangible (like hiding the cards in your hand when playing poker!)
agree gsloane : I'm with Anne-Marie on this one. I think you need to find a word in English, other than "details", that includes strategy/tactics, etc. Sorry, I'm not a gamer! My son is though!

hide (gathered) informations from other players

I guess it is more likely the text deals with gathered information that contains cues useful to win the game
anyway in my opinion you don't need to explain it better than the original text did, and the expression I suggest can be used (exactly as the original text does) to mean both personal details and game cues

However, usually other formulas are used to express the concept of 'personal informations' (e.g. 'personal' is specified, or, there will be references to the traceability of the I.P.

neutral Tony M : Maybe... but do let's note that 'information' is usually an uncountable in EN and so wouldn't be used in the plural; and I think the addition of 'gathered' almost certainly amounts to overinterpretation / There are plenty of those out there! ;-)

you are perfectly right! :) I was only induced to make this typo (as you can see in all the answer I do not mention the final 's' anymore) by some faulty documents I found online :) OK,once,but just for the reason already explained
