10.470.000 € per work

I am guessing that there's a typo, and it should be "à-obra", instead of "é-obra".

"é-obra" is written without the hifen and it means "amazing", or which I believe would not appear in this kind of text.

"à-obra" means "per work" and it makes sense here.

Cheers!

You know it! hehe Thanks! ;)
neutral Cristina Pereira : There must be a typo somewhere, yes, but in this case I think "por obra" would be more correct than "à obra"

Yes, it would, but "à obra" is a more popular term, which is also very used. And if you look up the other questions posted by the asker, supposedly from the same text, you will see that the author is no regular Camões, hehe
disagree Ligia Dias Costa : é obra means amazing.

200.482 escudos por euro, therefore one conto is just shy of 5 euros

An amazing (...) million contos/euros

1 conto = 1,000 escudos (as the others said)
"é obra" - usually stated as admiration for someone's achievement or something that was achieved.

"An amazing 2.1 million contos" is a possibility.
Note from asker:
Cristina thanks for your help - I am going to offer your interpretation as a possibility, in addition to 'per work' - both answers may be valie!

contos

1 conto = Portuguese Escudos 1.000 (we still refer to the old currency instead of Euro)

é obra - you can perhaps traslate as: it's too much
Note from asker:
Thanks so much for your help - or 'amazing' offered by Cristina is good!
