: Klassieker uit de Engelse literatuur. Ik zou verkiezen om de Engelse titel te behouden, tenzij het om een woordspeling gaat (zie commentaar Miles Otoole : originele titel is "Far from the madding crowd".

Zeker, maar vrager vraagt een Nederlandse titel en dit is - vreemd genoeg - de enige die ik kan vinden op internet. Aangezien hij geen verdere context geeft, vermoed ik dat maddening een tikfout is.

niet de nieuwste waarschijnlijk, maar http://www.amazon.co.uk/stadsgewoel-verhaal-Engelsch-Thomas-... en dat is kennelijk de enige poging ooit. (En kennelijk geen al te groot succes, anders was er vast nog wel ergens een exemplaar te vinden :)

This wasn't the title of the novel by Thomas Hardy-It was "Far from the madding crowd" and hence may be a play on the original, as maddening means inducing rage and anger, whereas madding means baying,thronging.
