There's such an amalgamation of hip hop and R&B and the samples that they use, the slowed-down sample, the sped-up vocals, it was such a new way of doing it. It was no longer the color-by-numbers R&B that you would see, Even if you may not even dig the music you gotta applaud him on that.

Supongo que recordarás los dibujos para colorear, para niños de 3-4 años (no estoy seguro sobre el rango), donde cada sección tiene un número y viene indicado el color que el niño debe llenar en la mismañ. En este caso es una forma de decir SIMPLE, o más bien peyorativamente MÉTODO SIMPLÓN guiado de la mano por instrucciones de otra persona, aplicado al R&B.
