Geräte are devices (机器/器具) while Anlagen are a combinations of devices which may be complex or simple and are usually identified as equipment (设备).

Gerät (singular) ---> Geräte (plural)
Anlage (singular) --> Anlagen (plural)

在德文里组合字词时,基于音韵需要,有些单数词会变成复数词后才与其它字词结合成新的字词,所以Gerätsicherheit这样的字词会是错误的,要说成Gerätesicherheit才对,而Produktsicherheit不是Produktesicherheit。后头那个-sicherheit就是“安全”的意思。由于“机器与产品安全”的“安全”指的同时是“机器的安全”和“产品的安全”,所以Geräte-后头有一个hyphen才接着 und (and) 这个字;这也是为什么我用“与”字的原因,否则会产生歧义,而被认为是〈“机器”和“产品安全”〉。

Some of my clients took the wrongly translated title of the said German law for the standard translation. After that I've explained them the nuisances in German and Chinese languages, they accept my translation and put it into their TMs as a standard term.

Thanks to Lesley's reminding me of the typo "nuances."

实话说,由于大家都错,一直延用下去,最后就变成对的了。如果别人都把Geräte都翻译成equipment而非devices,中文也一直延用为“设备”,没话说,那就跟着大家一起错会是比较安全的。

不过,我敢保证每个德国人都知道Anlage(n)和Gerät(e)的区别。翻译的事就让“市场”决定吧。

可能在英文里由于不能写Device & Product Safety Law,所以翻译成Equipment & Product Safety Law,那么中文里就按那方式处理了。

为了避免给你造成选择上的困惑,我做以下的解释:

虽然Anlage(n)和Gerät(e)有别,但这个法案名称的英文翻译已经被定型为Equipment and Product Safety Law,所以你在英译时必需采取已经定型的译法,也就是说,我前面所说的在懂德文的人看来不管怎么有道理都不算数,这个法案名称翻译英文时就是要把机器当成设备。请选择薇薇的答案。
