inveterate

or habitual (esp. undesirable)
Peer comment(s):

neutral Libero_Lang_Lab : inveterate is used, but it is somewhat lofty in style - i am not sure that it is absolutely the best adjective to juxtapose with delinquents...it's not wrong - but i think there are better options
18 minutos
agree luskie : we don't know which style is required here

agree Jane Lamb-Ruiz (X) : just to add to the pot: inveterate is good ole New Yorker (magazine that is) style, for example...

agree callista72 : "an inveterate drinker", a hardened criminal

a gang of helpless transgressors / delinquents / criminals

Luísa, acredito que "helpless" seja o que você está procurando, sendo que tem o sentido de "sem solução", "sem jeito", "irreparáveis". "Transgressors" também é mais comum do que "delinquents", mas, afinal, são todos uns pequenos "criminals".

Boa sorte
Peer comment(s):

disagree Libero_Lang_Lab : helpless, on the contrary, describes them as poor pathetic victims. Completely inappropriate I feel. delinquents is the term - criminals is much broader in meaning, an 80 year old robber would not be a delinquent. transgressor is the wrong tone and style

disagree Steve Smith : Não teria "disagreed" contigo se não fosse o comentário idiota do AR que segue. Quero deixar bem claro (como falante nativo de inglês) que as respostas acima são todas possíveis mas que "helpless" muda o significado bastante.

disagree Libero_Lang_Lab : I happen to be English not Russian... and I know good English when I see it - that's how I earn my living - writing/translating into English - and I read & speak a few other languages too, including a few romance languages. u r free to ignore my comments.

Quais são as suas qualificaç~oes em português?
agree luskie : I would definitely agree with you if the site did lack any agree/disagree sytem - but, as it is, and as you see, I think you (we) can be quite confident... Or, maybe, you might try to propose some change in the site rules... Have a good weekend :)

well, delinquents, not criminals
Peer comment(s):

agree Libero_Lang_Lab : hardcore - if the asker wants a less formal tone - is a nice option. none of the others pair particularly well with delinquent in my view marfus
