Russian term

чудаки с лампочками

Russian to English Art/Literary
имеется в виду внешний вид инопланетных пришельцев: эдакие существа с лампочками на головах. если я переведу как aliens with lightbulbs, то будет понятно, об чем речь?..

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jul 25, 2002:
to danski i like the sound of "bulb-headed", but this way it sounds like the creatures have heads shaped like a bulb... while they literally have a bulb on the top of their helmets, perhaps they don't even have anything to do with extraterrestrial anatomy %) but thanks for your suggestion anyway!
Olga Simon Jul 25, 2002:
Already changed. Don't worry.
Non-ProZ.com Jul 25, 2002:
sorry this ought have been marked as "art/literary", not marketing :(

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "мне меня тоже жалко. :)) спасибо за идею -- я решила, что это будут extra-terrestrial weirdos with lightbulbs on their helmets %) громоздко, но весьма похоже на то,что изображено на картинке :) спасибо!"

Good luck, Asker Zmejka!
Peer comment(s):

agree Sergey Gorelik : What about 'odd-looking'?

Quite nice, agreed. Letґs call it 'odd-looking' stranger - bloody alien (just kidding, of course "bloody should be strictly prohibited")
agree Michael Tovbin : funny-looking guys with light bulbs (little green men/beings with light-bulbs)

Surely, Mike. And sometimes even with red & green ones

globe-headed aliens, or aliens with globes on their heads

they aren't actual 'lightbulbs', but saying 'intruders with a lightbulb-shaped thing on their heads' is a bit long, no?

agree Libero_Lang_Lab : the latter rather than the former. globe-headed suggests to me that their heads are globe-shaped not that they have bulbs on them!

antenna-headed weirdos

or
weirdos with antennas
Peer comment(s):

disagree Libero_Lang_Lab : they are not antennas they are bulbs... and not all wierdos come from other planets as i think Proz.com demonstrates quite adequately.

lamp- or bulb-headed aliens

unlike globe - which does suggest a shape rather than an appendage - i think this construction would work for bulb and lamp.
