El sueño va sobre el tiempo

Spanish to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
Hi, I've got a series of question regarding the poem "La leyenda del tiempo" by Federico García Lorca. (not for work, I just love Camaron de la Isla's rendition of it):

El sueño va sobre el tiempo
flotando como un velero
nadie puede abrir semillas
en el corazón del sueño ...

El tiempo va sobre el sueño
hundido hasta los cabellos
ayer y mañana comen
oscuras flores de duelo.

Sobre la misma columna
abrazados sueño y tiempo.
Cruza el gemido del niño
la lengua rota del viejo

El sueño va sobre el tiempo ...

Y si el sueño finge muros
en la llanura del tiempo,
el tiempo le hace creer
que nace en aquel momento ...

El sueño va sobre el tiempo ...

Could the first line simply be translated with

The dream goes over time

or is there another layer of meaning?

thanks

Pay attention to the other verses. If you change the original meaning of "VA" (goes)in the first line, you should also translate "El tiempo VA sobre el sueño." And if you choose that way the whole meaning of the poem would be another one.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "The other suggestions are very nice and poetic and certainly not wrong, but I agree that they have a more or less subtle effect on the meaning of the poem. Thanks all."

The dream flies over time

As Ms. Roberto said, be careful how you translate. I chose "flies" because it gives the impression of being over, but also of movement. However it seems each one of these "ir"s can be translated as something different. "Floats", "wanders", "flies", "goes", and "moves" being some of the options I would chose.
