Actually, I suspect the cat is behaving in that way because it **really** likes the smell of the wood or the varnish of the new staircase. See how he gives it a sniff when he gets to the bottom.

If my cat doesn't feel like responding, she just ignores us. No, actually she just says hello with a short "miaow" but she doesn't get up to approach me.

This cat was like: one part of me wants to come down, while the other doesn't. A dilemma lol
