One of my client was involved in high profile bankruptcy proceedings.
Last year one of my long-standing clients (a Belgian translation agency) was declared bankrupt by the court. I knew that they were experiencing problems for some time but I assumed that they would overcome them. Fortunately, they did not owe me any money…

Not that I know of | Dec 20, 2017 |
But I have a list of over 60 clients and I only hear from a fraction of them each year.
As far as I know, none of my clients have gone out of business this year but some have done so in recent years: two were declared bankrupt and two were taken over by other, larger agencies. One which went bankrupt re-opened a month later under a new name, owing its translators many thousands (which, apparently, is legal in the UK).
A couple of them were bought - 'acquired' by larger agencies. Usually, not to the advantage of the translators.

That's why I answered no.

Not this year | Dec 20, 2017 |
I accidentally said Yes, but it was 2 or 3 years ago. One translation agency went bankrupt but paid me, one went bankrupt and never paid a brass farthing to me or to the in-house staff. One of my best customers died and his family closed the business.

Not necessarily over the past year, but I've had clients that: 1. Cheated on translators, closed and reopened with a new name; 2. Were purchased or merged into larger agencies; 3. Simply closed or went bankrupt; 4. Disappeared and I don't really know if they closed or not.
