Right now, I'm content with the areas I already work in. However, I can't rule out that I might become interested in some other field, should the occasion arise at some point in the future. | | | Angus Stewart United Kingdom Local time: 16:22 Member (2011) French to English + ... No, I am sufficiently happy with my existing specializations | Oct 25, 2017 |
I few years ago I added art to my areas of expertise. However, the volume of additional work it generated was not sufficient to justify the amount I spent on training courses in order to be able to claim it as a specialism. For the time being I am more than happy to stick to my existing specialisms.
I’m quite happy with what I have. I wouldn't say I'm specialized in medicine, but over the years I gained experience in certain medical areas (cardiology, dermatology, obstetrics and gynecology, infectiology) and I’d like to learn more…

is a field I would like to add to my specialisms and I have made some attempts to do so. It is a major interest of mine and I started taking riding lessons as a 6-year-old. I follow the sport, go to events and read as much as I can. I took up riding again as an adult, but nowadays (due to moving, etc.), I am on the lookout for a suitable riding school and try to find opportunities to spend time with horses, e.g. by helping out at a friend's stable with the two retired horses she is takin... I would like to specialize in creative/ literary translations. | | | Egmont Schröder Germany Local time: 17:22 Member (2013) Chinese to German + ...
I would like to go in the legal field, so that I am able to translate contracts in my other fields. I am always very intimidated by the legal language, but I should start slowly (already started to translate working contracts). This will provide more business opportunities. And of course literature, but I have to pay the bills somehow;)

Just like our colleagues before, I am also quite happy with the fields I regularly work in right now. However, I would love to get more jobs in the sports translation/interpreting field, especially football (and tennis, and ski-jumping). I've been translating several sports betting articles, and I love to work on them - a plus being some mathematical/statistics twists that are challenging, but that's also something I enjoy. I've not actively tried to get more jobs in the field but I will..... See more Just like our colleagues before, I am also quite happy with the fields I regularly work in right now. I want to specialize in the localization of websites from Swedish to US English. I already know HTML5, CSS3 and some JavaScript. All I need now is some more training and practice in the localization process.

I'm already specializing in my favorite three fields: creative writing, subtitle translation, and literary translations. | | | Had to read this one twice. | Oct 25, 2017 |
I must be due to retire from active service, which would be a pity, as I can't quite afford it yet. I had to read this one twice. "Is there a field you would like to specialize in that you are not already?" That I am not already what? OK, so I know it means" that you are not already specializing in", or "that you don't already specialize in". I'm going to sound fusssy here, but I'm old enough to take the critics on the chin. As it stands, we just have the auxiliary withouth the main verb a second time. FYI, I am not already a field. I know that the main verb is understood, implied, probably even down right obvious. Wouldn't it just be nice to have a complete sentence though? Yup, must be time to hang up my hat, or to crawl back under the nearest rock to join other lower forms of life.

I enjoy specializing in Medical/Healthcare translations but there are always opportunities for video game translators that I can't offer my services for because most clients ask for 3+years experience in video game translation. Contract translation would also be another specialty I would like to focus on eventually. | | | Pages in topic: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Is there a field you would like to specialize in that you are not already?
