Currently I mainly work as a goldsmith, but the feeling and understanding of forms has originated in the period of training as a
silversmith by making teapots, plates, spoons…The pure and simple
forms I learned to love in those days are still the basics of my work.
There is a connection between all the pieces I made and it is possible to understand the permanent process. It is important for me to see
the development. Light and shadow and the contrast between
fore- and background are the only “decoration” of my work, which I support with different surfaces.

The stainless-steel balls I create are based on a traditional ball from Southeast Asia, used in a game called sepak raga in Malaysia. There it is made from rattan cane and is very light. I have added another
layer to the traditional weave and the ball consists of 16 pieces of rope. There are thus 32 ends hidden within the ball. The rope is usually used for rigging on ships and for heavy lifting gear and although it is very expensive I enjoy working with it because it is uniform throughout its length and is naturally springy, forming
perfect circles without any kinks or bulges.

Attualmente lavoro per lo più come orafa, ma la mia passione e conoscenza delle forme hanno avuto origine nel periodo della mia formazione come argentiera, durante il quale ho realizzato teiere, piatti, cucchiai…
Le forme pure e semplici che ho imparato ad amare in quel periodo sono ancora alla base del mio lavoro.
Esiste un legame che unisce tutte le mie creazioni, tanto che è possibile comprenderne il costante progresso. Ciò che conta per me è vederne l’evoluzione.
Luci, ombre ed il contrasto tra primo piano e sfondo sono le uniche “decorazioni” del mio lavoro, che valorizzo usando superfici diverse.

Le sfere in acciaio inossidabile che realizzo si inspirano ad una palla tipica del sud-est asiatico, utilizzata in un gioco che in Malesia è chiamato sepak raga. Lì è fatta con la canna di rattan ed è molto leggera. Io ho aggiunto un ulteriore strato alla trama tradizionale, cosicché la sfera si compone di 16 pezzi di corda d’acciaio con all’interno 32 estremità non visibili. Tale corda è solitamente utilizzata per il sartiame sulle navi o per le attrezzature di sollevamento carichi pesanti e, sebbene sia molto costosa, mi piace lavorarla perché è uniforme in tutta la sua lunghezza e possiede un’elasticità naturale. Inoltre, forma dei cerchi perfetti senza generare pieghe o rigonfiamenti.

NINGALOO
Ningaloo is home to the world's largest fringing reef and can be reached by just a short swim in many places. Nowhere else on the planet can you access a large coral reef so easily. What's more, it's made the UNESCO World Heritage list for its incredible biodiversity and the 'bucket list' as one of the few places in the world where you can swim with the largest fish in the ocean, the gentle whale shark.
For your Ningaloo escape, head for Coral Bay or Exmouth. Flights from Perth get you to nearby Learmonth airport in two and a half hours. Alternatively, you can make the two-day drive from Perth, or join an extended tour.
Reaching nearly 20 kilometres seaward and covering 5,000 square kilometres of ocean, Ningaloo Reef brings you face-to-fin with some 500 species of fish, graceful manta rays and turtles, as you glide over 300 varieties of coral. Or, if you'd prefer to stay dry, glass-bottom boat tours offer a window to this underwater wonderland.
For real adventure-lovers, nothing compares to the exhilaration of swimming with the world's largest fish - the whale shark - which visits Ningaloo between late March and mid-July and can grow up to 16 metres long.
Between June and November, Ningaloo welcomes another mammoth visitor, as humpback whales make their annual migration. Whale watching tours operate from Coral Bay and Exmouth, but if you miss the boat, you might catch the turtle nesting and hatching season when tours run from late January to February.
For a different perspective, explore the rugged red canyons of Cape Range National Park in a four-wheel drive or on foot. Take a guided walk up Mandu Mandu gorge, stopping to spot native wildlife, and be sure to stop at Vlamingh Head Lighthouse on the way back to take in a Ningaloo sunset.
To add to the adventure, go camping or 'glamping' in Cape Range National Park. Alternatively, make Coral Bay or Exmouth your base - both offer options to cater for all budgets, from backpackers, caravan parks and chalets to motels, lodges and resorts.

Per la vostra fuga a Ningaloo, dirigetevi verso Coral Bay o Exmouth. I voli da Perth vi portano al vicino aeroporto di Learmonth in due ore e mezza. In alternativa, è possibile fare un viaggio in auto di due giorni da Perth o partecipare a un tour esteso.
Affacciata sul mare per circa 20 chilometri e ricoprendo un’area di 5.000 chilometri quadrati di oceano, la barriera corallina di Ningaloo vi conduce “faccia a faccia” con circa 500 specie di pesci, leggiadre mante e tartarughe, mentre scivolate su 300 varietà di corallo. Tra giugno e novembre, Ningaloo ospita un altro gigantesco visitatore, la megattera, che compie la sua annuale migrazione. In European folklore the return of the month of May was celebrated with festivals and rituals accompanied by dancing and singing hoping to secure the fertility of the soil and abundant harvests in the future. The ceremonies held during this month revolve around the rebirth of vegetation after winter. This is the busiest time of the year celebrating Pentecost, visiting sanctuaries, mountains and locations that today are not used for worship, searching for natural symbols, typical signs of nature’s rebirth.
THE SNAKES OF COCULLO
Cocullo (AQ)
Every year on the first Thursday of the month, Cocullo becomes an international attraction for thousands of tourists who come here to participate in one of the most unusual popular festivals, the snake festival in honour of San Domenico Abate. The festival is based on essential moments. On March 19th, the snake hunt begins. Snakes are kept in baskets until the day of the festival. On the day of the festival, in the morning, young men gather in the square with the snakes in their hands. Later, they will be used to cover the statue of the saint when it leaves the sanctuary dedicated to him.
The meaning of this ritual derives from one of the miracles performed by San Domenico Abate while wandering through Abruzzo, taming nature and animals, above all snakes and wolves. Pilgrims and tourists are moved by the procession and miracle of the snakes tamed by San Domenico. Even though the snakes used today are harmless, the allegorical symbolism is powerful: the snake is the symbol of evil, also used to portray the devil. With the Saint’s victory over evil, the participants in the ritual also celebrate their freedom and victory over evil.

I SERPENTI DI COCULLO
Cocullo (AQ)
Ogni anno, il primo giovedì del mese, Cocullo diventa un’attrazione internazionale per migliaia di turisti che vengono qui per partecipare ad una delle feste popolari più insolite, la festa del serpente in onore di San Domenico Abate. La festa è composta da momenti essenziali. Il 19 marzo inizia la caccia al serpente. I serpenti vengono tenuti in delle ceste fino al giorno della festa, quando al mattino, i giovani si riuniscono in piazza con in mano i serpenti che, in seguito, saranno utilizzati per ricoprire la statua del santo quando uscirà dal santuario a lui dedicato.
Il significato di questo rito ha origine da uno dei miracoli compiuti da San Domenico Abate durante le sue peregrinazioni in Abruzzo, domando natura e animali, soprattutto serpenti e lupi. Pellegrini e turisti sono commossi per la processione e il miracolo dei serpenti domati da San Domenico. Sebbene i serpenti utilizzati oggi siano innocui, il simbolismo allegorico è forte: il serpente è il simbolo del male, usato anche per raffigurare il diavolo. Con la vittoria del Santo sul male, anche i partecipanti al rito celebrano la loro libertà e la loro vittoria.

Source text - English THE CIVITELLA DEL TRONTO FORTRESS
The Civitella del Tronto fortress which from its plateau dominates the village below, is considered one of the most important strongholds of the Neapolitan vice realm. The building of the fortress maintains the general features of the great Spanish layout, carried out during the second half of the 16th century. The fortress situated on a travertine hill occupies the entire top of the plateau and is surrounded by massive walls whose ramparts ensured crossfire which blocked the enemy. On the southern side, the defence wall is doubled by a chemise. The fortress, impenetrable from the north and west was more vulnerable on the eastern side. After passing through the superb “Porta di Napoli”, there is a paved road leading to the entrance to the fortress protected by the San Pietro rampart. A ramp leads to Piazza del Cavaliere, protected by the Sant’Andrea and San Pietro ramparts; a second ramp leads to a second parade ground, protected to the south by the San Giovanni rampart ending at the west with the ruins of the military barracks. The first of the five large cisterns, located under the parade ground, combined with a complex system of run-off-canals made up the ingenious system for collecting and purifying rain water. The water was transferred to the cistern through two openings in the parade ground, currently protected by iron grating.
The top of the plateau is dominated by the remains of Palazzo del Governatore (inaugurated in 1574) and the church of San Giacomo (built in 1585 and consecrated in 1604) defended to the north by the rampart bearing the same name. Along the main east-west road, behind these buildings, lie the barracks, stores and armouries, up to the area where the Carmine church once stood and ending to the west with a large cistern. The 16th century restoration work includes the structures of the so-called prison of “Calabozzo del Coccodrillo”, at the height of the first access ramp, as well as the circle of defensive walls, including the reinforcing chemise on the southern side, dated 1564. The further strengthened citadel put up strong resistance in 1559 against the long siege by the French troops. Phillip II, aware of the strategic importance of Civitella, ordered work to build a real fortress which lasted until 1574. After many years of restoration, with radical reconstruction, the fortress was re-opened to the public and in 1988 the Fortress Museum located on the highest point of the site was inaugurated. It has a remarkable collection of extremely interesting old weapons, maps and documents that reconstruct the historic events of the fortress.

La fortezza di Civitella del Tronto, che dal suo colle domina il borgo sottostante, è considerata una delle più importanti roccaforti del viceregno di Napoli. L’impianto della fortezza mantiene le caratteristiche generali della grandiosa sistemazione spagnola, compiuta a partire dalla seconda metà del XVI secolo. La fortezza, situata su una collina di travertino, occupa l’intera sommità dell'altura ed è circondata da robuste mura che, con una serie di bastioni, assicuravano il fuoco di sbarramento incrociato sul nemico. Sul lato meridionale, la cinta muraria protettiva è raddoppiata da una falsabraga. La fortezza, impenetrabile dal versante settentrionale e occidentale, risultava più vulnerabile a oriente. Dopo aver superato l’imponente “Porta di Napoli”, si percorre una strada lastricata che conduce all'entrata della fortezza, difesa dal bastione di San Pietro. Una rampa giunge alla piazza del Cavaliere, protetta dai bastioni di Sant'Andrea e di San Pietro; un’altra rampa conduce ad una seconda piazza d'armi, presidiata sul lato sud dal bastione di San Giovanni e terminante a ovest con i ruderi di caserme militari. Al di sotto della piazza d’armi è situata la prima delle cinque grandi cisterne che, insieme ad una complessa rete di canali di deflusso, costituivano un ingegnoso sistema di raccolta e purificazione dell'acqua piovana; questa veniva incanalata nella cisterna attraverso due aperture sulla piazza d'armi, oggi protette da grate di ferro.
La cima dell’altura è dominata dalle rovine del Palazzo del Governatore (inaugurato nel 1574) e dalla chiesa di San Giacomo (costruita nel 1585 e consacrata nel 1604), difese a nord dall'omonimo bastione. Alle spalle di questi edifici, lungo la strada principale che va da est a ovest, si trovano delle caserme, dei magazzini e delle armerie fino alla zona dove un tempo sorgeva la chiesa del Carmine e che termina ad occidente con una grande cisterna. I lavori di ristrutturazione del XVI secolo comprendono le strutture della cosiddetta prigione di "Calabozzo del Coccodrillo", all'altezza della prima rampa d'accesso, come anche la cinta delle mura difensive, inclusa la falsabraga di rinforzo sul versante meridionale che reca la data del 1564. La cittadella, ulteriormente rafforzata, oppose una strenua resistenza al lungo assedio delle truppe francesi nel 1559. Filippo II, consapevole dell'importanza strategica di Civitella, ordinò la costruzione di una vera e propria fortezza, i cui lavori durarono fino al 1574. In seguito a molti anni di restauro, con ricostruzioni radicali, la fortezza venne riaperta al pubblico e nel 1988 fu inaugurato il Museo della Fortezza, collocato sul punto più alto del sito, la cui esposizione comprende una notevole collezione di armi, mappe e documenti antichi di straordinario interesse che ripercorrono le vicende storiche della fortezza.

Fasteners are used to join two or more components together.
Screws are conical pieces of metal with a thread cut into them. Screws for metal have a parallel thread, while those for wood have a tapered helical thread.
The metric thread is commonly used in Europe.
The pitch of a screw thread is the distance from a point in the thread to the corresponding point on the next thread.
Screw threads can be cut by hand using taps and dies. Some screws are self-tapping.
Bolts are cylindrical metal rods threaded at one end to take a nut with a head at the other end. The nuts used with the bolt are classified as hexagonal, square and circular.
Locknuts are used when parts are subject to vibration to prevent the nut working loose.
Rivets are used to join metals permanently. They are made from malleable metals such as iron, steel, copper, brass, aluminium and aluminium alloys.
Spanners and pliers are commonly used to tighten or loosen fasteners.
Spanners should always fit the nut well or the corners of the nut will be damaged, and the spanner strained.
Closed spanners (ring, box or socket) slip less than open spanners, because they grip the nut more firmly.
Pliers can be tightly locked onto objects. They are useful for holding objects when drilling or grinding. They can be found with or without insulated handles.
Slip-joint pliers can be adjusted to give a wider than average gap between the jaws.
Snipe-nose pliers have long, pointed jaws to be used use in tight places and are particularly useful for gripping small electrical parts.

Le chiavi e le pinze vengono generalmente utilizzate per stringere o allentare gli elementi di fissaggio.
Le chiavi devono sempre essere adatte al tipo di dado, per impedire il danneggiamento dei lati di un dado e per non sottoporre una chiave a sforzi.
Le chiavi ad apertura fissa (ad anello, a tubo o a bussola) scivolano meno delle chiavi ad apertura variabile in quanto afferrano il dado più saldamente.
Le pinze possono essere bloccate stabilmente sugli oggetti; esse sono utili per tenere i pezzi durante la foratura o la molatura ed è possibile trovarle con o senza manici in materiale isolante.

These gas-fired air heaters are new in that they can be either wall-mounted (W) or ceiling-mounted (WR).
Thanks to the special patented gas burner, they are the ideal solution for heating homes, commercial spaces, offices, etc.
The two adjustable two-speed centrifugal fans make it possible to reach the desired temperature very quickly and then maintain it with remarkable fuel consumption saving. The direction of the air delivery grates is adjustable and the intake filter limits the impurities suspended in the air. The wall-mounted model incorporates the standard control panel, while the ceiling-mounted version is remote controlled.
The temperature desired is quickly reached and fuel consumption saving can amount to 30%.
All you require to install the W-WR units is a gas line and a power point (socket). A cardboard template is supplied to correctly carry out the wall connections needed.
The combustion cycle is airtight, sealed off from the room where the unit is installed. Combustion air is taken in from the outside and combustion products are fan-discharged to the outside. A safety device constantly checks circuit operation, ensuring reliability and safety.

What do you do with a ladder that half of the population cannot climb? Rebuild it,
that everyone has the opportunity to get to the top. This is the conclusion the European Commission has now reached concerning the progress of women in science.
Over the past few years the promotion of women in science has become key concern. As in many areas, the lack of women is seen not only as a serious waste of human resources; but as a limiting factor to the diversity of research and its contribution to society. The European Commission has already taken several steps towards rectifying this situation.
A communication on Women and Science raised the issue of women’s participation in science and research at the European level. The main issue of debate was that of a masculine bias in education and careers. One of the interesting points raised here is that of the age. It may be true that famous scientists of the past made most of their discoveries at an early age, but is this a reason to put age limits on a scientific post? An upper age limit of 40 for a permanent research post discriminates against both man and woman who may have a great deal to offer, but particularly discriminates against women who wish to have both a scientific career and a family and so may be juggling more than one priority in their 20s and 30s. Can the scientific community also afford to ignore the fact that women live longer than men? While male colleagues may be looking forward to retirement in their late 40s and early 50s, many women may just be getting to their stride career-wise, only to find that the opportunities for advancement are closed.
A special report carried out by the European Technology Assessment Network not only outlined the need for firm action but pointed out ways to shake up the current structure of scientific advancement to make it more accessible to women, because “Women are key actors for ensuring reform and progress, - says Philip Busquin, Commissioner for Research – hence what is good for Women and Science is good for science and society as a whole”.

Una situazione verso la quale la Commissione europea ha già mosso alcuni passi per rimediarvi.
Una comunicazione dal titolo Women and Science (Donne e scienza) ha posto in evidenza il problema della partecipazione femminile nel settore scientifico ed in quello della ricerca a livello europeo; l’argomento principale di dibattito ha riguardato la discriminazione delle donne a favore degli uomini nell’ambito accademico e professionale, ed uno dei punti interessanti sollevati è stato quello dell’età. Sarà pur vero che gli scienziati famosi del passato hanno compiuto la maggior parte delle loro scoperte in giovane età, ma è questa una ragione valida tale da imporre dei limiti di età per l’accesso a ruoli scientifici? Il limite massimo di età a 40 anni, per un incarico permanente da ricercatore, discrimina gli uomini come le donne, entrambi i quali potrebbero avere tanto da offrire, ma soprattutto discrimina le donne che vogliono sia intraprendere una carriera scientifica sia farsi una famiglia, e che pertanto potrebbero destreggiarsi tra più di una priorità all’età di 20 o 30 anni. Può la comunità scientifica permettersi di ignorare il fatto che le donne vivono più a lungo degli uomini? Mentre i loro colleghi maschi potrebbero già aver iniziato a pensare alla pensione tra la fine dei 40 e gli inizi dei 50 anni, molte donne invece potrebbero aver appena iniziato a far carriera, soltanto per accorgersi che le opportunità di avanzamento sono bloccate.
In un rapporto speciale della European Technology Assessment Network (Rete integrata nel campo della valutazione delle scelte scientifiche e tecnologiche a livello europeo) non solo è stato sottolineato il bisogno di agire con decisione, ma sono state fornite anche delle indicazioni per riformare l’attuale struttura del campo del progresso scientifico, in modo da renderlo più accessibile alle donne, perché “le donne sono attori chiave per la garanzia di riforme e progresso”, afferma Philip Busquin, Commissario per la Ricerca, “pertanto ciò che è giusto per le donne e per la scienza è anche giusto per la scienza e la società nell’insieme”.

As a new millenium begins, scholars say that about one-fourth of the world’s population can communicate to some degree in English.
It is the common language in almost every field and has consolidated its dominance as the language of the Internet, where 80 percent of the world’s electronically stored information is in English. There may be more native speakers of Chinese or Spanish, but it is English they speak when they talk across cultures, and English they teach their children to help them become citizens of an increasingly interwined world.
At telephone call centres around the world, the enblem of a globalized workplace, yhe language spoken is, naturally English. On the radio, pop music carries the sound of English to almost every corner of the earth.
“English has become the second language of everybody”, said Mark Warshauer, a professor of informatics ath the University of California. “It’s gotten to the point where almost in any part of the world to be educated means to know English”.
In some places, he says, English has invaded the workplace along with the global economy. Some Swedish companies, for example, use English within the workplace, even though they are in Sweden, because so much of their business is done through the Internet and other means of communication with the outside world.
As English continues to spread, the linguistic say, it is fragmenting, as Latin did, into a family of dialects – and perhaps eventually fully fledged languages – know as Englishes.
New vernaculars have emerged in such places as Singapore, Nigeria and the Caribbean, although widespread literacy and mass communication may be slowing the natural process of diversification.
But Unlike Latin and other former common languages, most scholars say English seems to be too widespread and too deeply rooted to die out. Instead, it is likely to survive in some simplified international form – sometimes called Globish or World Standard Spoken English – side by side with its offspring.

Sarà pur vero che i madrelingua cinesi o spagnoli sono in maggioranza, ma è l’inglese che essi usano per comunicare con altre culture, ed è l’inglese che insegnano ai propri figli, con lo scopo di aiutarli a diventare cittadini di un mondo sempre più interconnesso.
Nei call centre del mondo, emblemi del posto di lavoro globalizzato, la lingua parlata è, naturalmente, l’inglese; alla radio, la musica pop diffonde sonorità inglesi in circa ogni angolo della terra.
“L’inglese è diventata la seconda lingua per tutti, si è arrivati al punto in cui in quasi ogni parte del mondo essere istruiti significa conoscere l’inglese”, afferma Mark Warshauer, professore d’Informatica presso la University of California.
In alcuni posti, secondo Warshauer, l’inglese ha invaso i luoghi di lavoro a fianco dell’economia globale; ad esempio, alcune imprese svedesi, sebbene abbiano sede in Svezia, utilizzano l’inglese per le comunicazioni interne d'ufficio, dal momento che molte delle loro attività commerciali con l’esterno si svolgono tramite la rete ed altri mezzi di comunicazione.
Visto la continua espansione dell’inglese, spiegano i linguisti, esso si sta frammentando, così come accadde con il latino, in una famiglia di dialetti – e probabilmente in delle lingue vere e proprie col passar del tempo – chiamate Englishes. Difatti, nuove lingue vernacolari si sono sviluppate in posti quali Singapore, Nigeria ed i Caraibi, nonostante una diffusa alfabetizzazione e comunicazione di massa potrebbero rallentare tale processo naturale di diversificazione.
Ma la maggior parte degli studiosi sostiene che la lingua inglese, diversamente dal latino e da altre lingue comuni del passato, sembra essere largamente diffusa e fermamente radicata per poter scomparire, è molto più probabile, invece, che sopravviva in una qualche forma internazionale semplificata – a volte chiamata Globish o World Standard Spoken English (inglese standard globale) – al fianco delle sue derivate.
