For future reference:

My average daily output is from 2000 to 5000 words,
depending on format and complexity and CAT tool. For general content in Word or
PDF legible by Studio I can deliver a high-quality translation of 2000 words in
3-4 hours, according to complexity, exigence and urgency.  To adapt,
localize or transcreate, it can be about 5-6 h. Per day, maximum between
4000-7000 words, according to complexity and exigence.  For proofreading,
I estimate a minimum of 3000 and a maximum of 10000 words per day.

Translation, editing, proofreading rates:

My normal rates are between 0.07 € and 0.16 € per
translated word and about 0.035 € and 0.07 € per proofread word, depending on
the kind of text, turnaround time, monthly volume… For big projects or
long-term collaborations, I would consider working with lower rates, if the
monthly basis is reasonable. Per hour, between 17 € and 50 €. For MTPE I
usually get 0.04 € per word.

Expertise fields:

IT, tourism, literature, humanities (sociology,
politics, history, anthropology, philosophy, art, architecture, music,
psychology, grammar, linguistics, theology, religion …), ecology, energy,
science, technical, thermography, termical and digital vision, photography and
video, websites, poker, games & apps, gastronomy & food, manuals,
agriculture, veterinary, marketing, business & finance, MTPE, medical &
pharmaceutical, legal, surveys, letters, CVs, diplomas…

I work with SDL Trados Studio 2022, my own licensed
CAT tool, with XBench. I have a background in other tools and platforms like
Crowdin, Smartcat, Wordbee, Smartling, Wordfast, Memsource, memoQ….

In
translation area:

I have been working recently on a translation and
recreation project involving English, Italian and French for Amazing Digital
Studios. Is an educational and didactic video subtitling project about the
opera from Handel Partenope, in the delicate version of Les Arts
Florissants.

Translation,
transcreation, adaptation and creation of subtitles
 for 6 Music Lessons in
video by William Christie addressed to the singers of Handel's Partenope opera
and designed to promote the understanding and appreciation of music of the
baroque, as well as share this approach for musicians and singers. Approx. 100
minutes of video with English and French dialogues. Project included
the adaptation and lyrical version of several arias from the original Italian
libretto de Silvio Stampiglia into Spanish and English
. Produced by Amazing
Digital Studios, France for Les Arts Florissants. Content soon available
online. Reference: Dr Anna-Lucy Allwood, DG Amazing Digital Studios.

This January I finished the translation of a long novel for children,
called
The Island of Iros, by L. M. Bracklow, with almost 70,000 words.
Book will be published soon. ISBN 979-8-9864957-0-5 and 979-8-9864957-1-2.

Back in May I participated in the translation of a
collection of Math books for children in the USA. Details:  EN (USA)
 ES
(USA): HMH into Math™: Grade 6 Math book Volume 1: Modules 1–7.
Teacher edition. Spanish title of the book: HMH ¡Arriba las
Matemáticas!
™. Authors: Edward B. Burger, PhD. Timothy D. Kanold, PhD.
Steven J. Leinwand. Matthew R. Larson, PhD. Ed. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
64,597 words. Translation in Memsource platform from English (USA) into Spanish
(United States). Both huge projects
related to children
have been done through Ulatus agency.

I proofread in 2019 a tale for children in Spanish, Las cosas
invisibles
, a story about technology, inspiration, and
spirituality.  More than 4,000 words. Reference: Romina Rodriguez do
Campo. CEO. TXT. (Lyon, France).

Some years ago, I
made an elaborated and complex rhythmical version of two poems of Anna Laetitia
Barbauld (XVIIIth century), of almost 1,300 words, for a university study in
Spain
. The longest one
was A Summer’s Evening Meditation, about the wonders of the
Universe, the love between the soul and the Creator, and the mysteries of the
unknown dimensions. The second one was a parafeminist plea or harangue
called The Rights of Women, an intelligent and ironic poem
defending mutual love, written as a reply to A Vindication of the
Rights of Woman
, a book that preludes the feminism, written by the
increasingly better-known Mary Wollstonecraft.

Besides, a
philosophical essay
of Peter Pál Pelbart, of almost 6,000
words, reflecting on conscience, individual and society.

Finally, the mystical deep and wise message of one
reference in the mystical and esoteric literature, The Prophet,
Khalil Gibran
, of almost 13,000 words.

In 2019, I proofread the translation from French into Spanish of almost 7,000 words for the VR Connection Atlantis videogame. This French game is about ancient Atlantis, and is full of fantastic characters, with a script and dialogues full of mythological references and a literary style. I think it is a content very similar to a fantasy romance.

Other projects related with
journalism:

In July of 2021 I started to translate, better saying
localize, for the Spanish journal El País news from their
Brazilian edition., Almost all news were about government, politics, social
problems, ecological questions, history… It was a job of localization,
adaptation and recreation which, unfortunately, ended last December due to the
decision of the owners of the journal group to close the Brazilian edition.

Stay happy and be attentive 😊

Muchos saludos

Oscar G. Villarino
