I am the daughter of a German linguist and an American diplomat; because of my father's profession I spent many years abroad in my youth. I have a PhD in particle physics and taught physics at the college level for many years, switching more recently to extensive tutoring in mathematics, physics and German. My sister, an editor and translator living in Germany, introduced me to the joys and challenges of translation work, and I have been translating from German to English on a freelance basis since, specializing in architecture and engineering articles and books. I would love to branch out into other scientific fields and especially into fiction. I am conversant in Spanish, familiar with French (written French in particular) and am currently learning Swedish. Though my formal training is in science, my love of languages and good writing keeps my interest in translation and in learning new languages perpetually active and continually growing.
