I am an experienced translator and offer translation services from Chinese into English, and from English into Chinese (Simplified and Traditional). I provide high-quality translations of marketing materials, corporate communications, policy documents and training materials to help companies reach their target markets and manage a global workforce. Before becoming a freelancer in 2015, I worked as an in-house translator and sub-editor for prestigious UK-based companies, including Christie’s and NET-A-PORTER.

While I can translate most types of documents, listed below are some of my specialisms:

Chinese into English

  • Corporate communications and marketing
  • Corporate policy documents and training materials
  • Certificates (e.g. academic certificates and transcripts; birth certificates; passports; travel documents)

English into Chinese
  • Fine Art
  • Fashion and beauty (Current/ previous clients include: NET-A-PORTER, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Dunhill, ba&sh etc.)
  • Real estate

Most of the freelance projects I have worked on are bound by Non-Disclosure Agreements. For this reason, I cannot list the names of all the clients I have worked with, but here are some examples of projects I have worked on:

  • Translating corporate communications, marketing materials, product information and other materials for one of China’s top 5 mobile phone brands (Chinese into English)
  • Translating compliance communications for top multinational corporations, including Fortune 500 companies (Chinese into English)
  • Translating HR documents for a top multinational logistics company (English into Chinese)
  • Translating HR documents for a UK-based construction company (Chinese into English)
  • Translating a visitor’s guide for the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, US (English into Chinese)
  • Translating product descriptions and website content for top global luxury brands, including Louis Vuitton, Dunhill and Christian Dior
  • Translating scientific papers for a governmental department in the UK (Chinese into English)

Coming from a trilingual background (Cantonese, Mandarin and English), I am among the few translators who can claim full native-level proficiency in both English and Chinese. I have resided in the UK since 2003 and hold a BA degree in History of Art from the University of Cambridge, a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language from SOAS, and a Level 3 Community Interpreting qualification (Mandarin and English). More recently, I also gained a Pass and a Merit in Units 1 and 3 of the Chartered Institute of Linguists' Diploma in Translation (DipTrans) exam. I am working towards gaining the full diploma and CIOL membership status.

Being fully proficient in Cantonese and Mandarin, I am equally confident working with Simplified and Traditional Chinese. With my unique background and professional experience, I have a truly excellent command of both Chinese and English, and can understand the source text in either language with great accuracy and translate it into clear, precise and natural English or Chinese copy that is culturally appropriate.

I am also the author of two English-language books - Bilingual and Trilingual Parenting 101: A Practical Handbook for Multilingual Families, and the creator behind the Multilingual Family website and YouTube channel.

I work proficiently with various CAT tools, including Trados and memoQ, and offer high-quality MTPE services at competitive rates.
