All children in the UK, who are aged 5-16, must receive a full-time education. It is the duty of the local council (usually known as the local authority) to provide this. Children who are refugees or seeking asylum are entitled to a full-time education, just like all other children in the UK.
Most children in the UK go to a state school. Some go to private schools, where the fees are paid by their parents. A small number of children have permission from the local authority to be educated at home.
The School Year

The school year in the UK begins in August or September and is split into either three or six terms. Each term is about seven or thirteen weeks long. Schools close for at least two weeks at Christmas and for two weeks at Easter, in March or April. There are short breaks of two to five days in the middle of each term.
The school year ends during June or July, when schools close for about six weeks.

یوکے میں رہنے والے 5 سے 16 سال تک کے سب بچوں کے لیے لازمی ہے کہ وہ کُل وقتی تعلیم حاصل کریں۔ مقامی کاؤنسل (جوعموماً لوکل اتھارٹی کے نام سے جانی جاتی ہے) کی یہ ذمہ داری ہے کہ وہ یہ تعلیم فراہم کرے۔ مہاجر یا پناہ گزین بچے بھی اس کُل وقتی تعلیم کے اسی طرح حقدار ہیں جیسے یوکے میں رہنے والے اور سب بچے۔
یوکے میں رہنے والے زیادہ تر بچے سرکاری اسکولوں میں جاتے ہیں۔ کچھ بچے نجی اسکولوں میں بھی جاتے ہیں جنکی فیس انکے والدین ادا کرتے ہیں۔ بچوں کی ایک قلیل تعداد کو لوکل اتھارٹی کی جانب سے گھر میں تعلیم حاصل کرنے کی اجازت ہوتی ہے۔

یوکے میں تعلیمی سال اگست یا ستمبر میں شروع ہوتا ہے اور تین یا چھھ حصوں یعنی ' ٹرمز' میں بانٹا جاتا ہے۔ ہر حصہ(ٹرم) تقریباً سات سے تیرہ ہفتوں پر محیط ہوتا ہے۔ کرسمس پر اسکول کم ازکم دو ہفتوں کےلیے بند ہوتے ہیں، اور اسی طرح مارچ یا اپریل میں ایسٹر کے موقع پر بھی دو ہفتوں کے لیے۔ ہر ٹرم کے درمیان میں دو سے پانچ دن تک کے چھوٹے وقفے بھی ہوتے ہیں۔
تعلیمی سال جون یا جولائی میں ختم ہوتا ہے، جب اسکول تقریباً چھھ ہفتوں کے لیے بند ہوجاتے ہیں۔
