Source text - English DNA repair is essential for life, yet its efficiency declines with age for reasons that are unclear. Numerous proteins possess Nudix homology domains (NHDs) that have no known function. We show that NHDs are NAD+ (oxidized form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) binding domains that regulate protein-protein interactions. The binding of NAD+ to the NHD domain of DBC1 (deleted in breast cancer 1) prevents it from inhibiting PARP1 [poly(adenosine diphosphate–ribose) polymerase], a critical DNA repair protein. As mice age and NAD+ concentrations decline, DBC1 is increasingly bound to PARP1, causing DNA damage to accumulate, a process rapidly reversed by restoring the abundance of NAD+. Thus, NAD+ directly regulates protein-protein interactions, the modulation of which may protect against cancer, radiation, and aging.
Translation - Russian Репарация ДНК жизненно важна, однако с возрастом ее эффективность по неясным причинам снижается. Многие белки обладают гомологичными доменами Nudix (NHD), назначение которых неизвестно. Нами установлено, что NHD являются доменами связывания с NAD+ (окисленной формой никотинамидадениндинуклеотида) и регулируют белок-белковые взаимодействия. Присоединение NAD+ к NHD-участку белка DBC1 (имеющего делецию при раке груди 1) не дает последнему ингибировать PARP1 (поли(АДФ-рибоза)-полимеразу 1), критически важную для процесса репарации ДНК. По мере старения мышей и снижения у них концентрации NAD+ белок DBC1 в значительно большем количестве связывается с PARP1, приводя к накоплению повреждений ДНК. Данный процесс можно быстро развернуть вспять, восстановив количество NAD+. Таким образом, NAD+ выступает непосредственным регулятором белок-белковых взаимодействий, управление которыми может дать защиту от рака, радиации и старения.

Source text - English With the VW emissions scandal still fresh in mind, potential bans for diesel cars on the horizon in European cities and improvements being made to compact, efficient petrol engines, it's fair to say diesel passenger cars are facing a few challenges. BMW hasn't given up hope, however, putting its faith in the new M550d xDrive as flagship of the 5 Series range. With four turbochargers boosting its six-cylinder engine, the 550d is the most powerful production six-cylinder diesel car ever built.
We didn't mistype that, BMW really has fitted four turbos to the inline-six in the M550d xDrive. The last M550d wasn't exactly a slouch, but dropping its tri-turbo engine in favor of the new quad has freed up another 14 kW (19 hp) of power and 20 Nm of torque. That brings peak power to 294 kW (394 hp), and peak torque to 760 Nm.
