Source text - English In the years before 1950, motor racing had been
dominated by individual Grands Prix competitions.
However, during the forties the decision was made to
link together several of these in order to create a single
championship competition. In 1949, the Fédération
Internationale de l’Automobile, or FIA, announced that
the following year would see the inauguration of the
Formula One World Championships, the name making
clear that it was to be viewed as the ultimate competitive
event in motor racing. The term itself related to the rules,
which had been standardised by the FIA in 1946.
Translation - German In den Jahren bis 1950 wurde der Motorrennsport durch einzelne Grands Prix geprägt. In den 40er Jahren entschied man sich allerdings dafür, mehrere dieser Rennen zu einer einzigen Meisterschaft zusammenzufassen. 1949 gab die Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile bekannt, im folgenden Jahr zum ersten Mal eine Formel-1-Weltmeisterschaft auszutragen. Sieben Rennen zählten zur Weltmeisterschaft, sechs davon in Europa und eines in Amerika, die 500 Meilen von Indianapolis. Auch wenn dieses Rennen regeltechnisch zur Weltmeisterschaft zählte, fiel es doch aus dem Rahmen, da es nicht nach den normalen Formel-1-Regeln durchgeführt wurde und Europäer dort nur selten mitfuhren.

XX today announced it is giving iPod and mobile music enthusiasts an alternative way to listen to their digital music: out loud. At CeBIT, the company unveiled the XX portable speakers, which produce high-quality sound at an affordable price.
The system is XX’s first product targeted at iPod users and the rapidly growing mobile music market. Technology market research firm IDC forecasts that more than 95 million portable compressed audio players will be shipped worldwide in 2006, up 70 percent from 2004.
