My name is Álvaro and I am a Spanish (EU) translator/PM currently living in Argentina with more than 11 years' experience in translation for an array of different projects and clients. I have translated more than 7 million words over the years specialising in marketing, tourism, travel, hospitality, technical documentation, e-commerce and journalism. Some of my previous clients include world-renowned brands and corporations: clients.

I provide translation, editing/proofreading/reviewing and copywriting services, in addition to MTPE services. I also run my own blog with articles translated from international media outlets: elbuenjuicio.wordpress.com, where I am responsible for the supervision of the texts from other collaborators and for maintaining their accuracy and grammatical correction.

For the past 4 years I have translated long-form news articles for a Spanish online magazine on a variety of topics, usually dealing with social sciences, politics, economy, human rights, sustainability, and culture. I recently started offering PM services to international translation agencies. On the latest project I collaborated in I monitored the workflow and allocated the required resources to high volume projects that involved the participation of 100+ translators. 

I was also Managing Editor at a publishing house for over 3 years. My role was to supervise the publishing process in several languages from the conception of each book project until its completion, and make sure all the participants (editors, writers, photographers, designers, etc.) carried out their tasks according to a defined timeline. I have experience working in a dynamic multicultural environment, managing multiple projects at the same time and handle pressure to see every project to a successful completion based on all the requirements and quality standards. I have a fine eye for detail and a keen sense of grammatical accuracy, thanks to my experience working in more than 50 book projects, successfully and timely finalised, which also shows excellent time management and prioritisation skills.

Additionally, I have proven experience in meetings with international clients in order to present and discuss new and ongoing projects. As a result, I am able to initiate, develop and maintain business relations with new and existing clients to form long-term relationships.

I have worked with TMs on a regular basis for the past 6 years. I am a proficient user of SDL Trados and an occasional user of memoQ, Memsource, Idiom and Xbench. I have worked with project management software like Basecamp, Baccs, Protemos, and CRM tools like Siebel and Sage. I am familiar with widely used subtitling programs (Subtitle Workshop, VisualSubSync, Aegisub). My knowledge of DTP programs is enough to know my way around them (Quark Xpress, InDesign, Photoshop) and in terms of the Office suite of programs I am an expert in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Lastly, I am familiar with SEO tools and content visibility techniques.

I place the utmost importance in respecting the agreed deadlines. I have never failed on a deadline, unless previously agreed upon, as all my previous clients can attest to (feedback above provided). I have formal training as a translator by way of a MA in Applied Languages and Translation, as well as a Master's degree in Comparative Literature and Literary Translation. The academic qualifications acquired in both degrees help me provide accurate ortothypographical translations with a high degree of fluidity and adaptation.
