Solid wastes generated by the integrated iron and steel works cause environmental pollution and therefore must be discarded accordingly. Extensive research is being conducted to recover the iron oxide that these wastes contain and for their elimination. Production of sponge iron from these wastes could be considered as one of the methods of beneficiation. In this study, reduction of cold-bonded pellets, produced from the solid wastes of Eregli Integrated Iron and Steel Works (ERDEMIR), using different reducing agents, was investigated. A rotary furnace was utilised for this purpose and the effects of different reducing agents, the ratio of C(fix)/Fe(total), temperature and time on the reduction were studied. The kinetics of the reduction process was also investigated and the data obtained were correlated with the Ginstling-Brounshtein model. The activation energy of the reduction was found to be 48.5 kJ/mol. | Çeviri - Türkçe
Entegre demir-çelik tesislerinin ortaya çıkardığı katı atıklar, çevresel kirliliğe yol açmaları nedeniyle uygun şekilde bertaraf edilmelidirler. Bu atıkların içerdiği demir oksitlerin geri kazanılması ve atıkların tasfiyesi üzerine yoğun araştırmalar yapılmaktadır. Sünger demir üretimi, bu atıkların değerlendirilmesine yönelik metotlardan birisi olarak kabul edilebilir. Bu çalışmada, Ereğli Entegre Demir-Çelik Tesislerinin (ERDEMİR) katı atıklarından üretilen soğuk bağlı peletlerin, farklı indirgeyici maddeler kullanılarak redüklenebilme özellikleri araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla bir döner fırın kullanılmış ve farklı redükleyici maddelerin, C(sabit)/Fe(toplam) oranının, sıcaklığın, ve sürenin, redüksiyon üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir. Redüksiyon prosesinin kinetiği de ayrıca incelenmiş ve elde edilen veriler, Ginstling-Brounshtein modeliyle ilişkilendirilmiştir. Most people begin to settle for mediocrity, for whatever life will give them as opposed to achieving an extraordinary life of their dreams. In fact, it has been said that most people work just hard enough to not get fired, and most employers pay people just enough so they don’t quit. I graduated from Istanbul Technical University (Istanbul, Turkey), with an M.Sc. diploma in metallurgical engineering, in 1982 and went to the U.S. to pursue a higher education. I have obtained another M.Sc. degree from mineral engineering department of Columbia University (New York, USA), in 1986. Upon receiving my Ph.D. degree from the same department of Columbia University, in 1991, I have returned to my home country and started teaching at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). Now, I am a full-time professor in metallurgical and materials engineering department of ITU and have been instructing all the mandatory English courses in my department’s curriculum for the past 15 years. I have also been doing some professional freelance translations every now and then, mostly in the field of science, engineering, and education.
