İspanyolca - İngilizce çeviriler [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Mimarlık | | İspanyolca terim veya ifade: (persianas) de librillo | Hello. From a document about building regulations:
"Las persianas serán enrollables o de librillo, con la caja hacia el interior, nunca visible desde fuera."
I am also having trouble with "caja" in this sentence; any suggestions?
Thanks for your help :) |

The problem is not with "persianas" but with "librillo". Thanks :) Muriel Vasconcellos: 08:29 Jan 31, 2006: The "librillo" part means that they open like a book as opposed to rolling up. I did a lot of research and could not find any qualifier except "colonial." See my complete answer below. -

| accordion blinds?
Açıklama: Accordion or honeycomb blinds
Accordion blinds are connected to horizontal slats 1 inch wide or more; the honeycomb style has two or more such layers connected. Both are available in non-woven fabrics in various colors and thicknesses.
Roll-up blinds
Natural-fiber reeds from grasses or bamboo, or synthetics like vinyl, are laid horizontally and woven together to produce a semi-transparent blind that rolls up from the bottom. They are inexpensive sun-blockers on a porch or in a sunroom.

for persianas de librillo I would go for
"folding blinds" or "pleated blinds".
Sorry forgot to add that the first time.

Just found more information:
From looking at the picture of persianas de librillo, this is often simply called a vertical blind or a vertical sliding blind where adjustable. Sliding blind seems to fit in with the librillo mechanism in this case. See link:

The pictures show them with legends **in Spanish**. I guess the idea is that they open like a book. They can be internal or external.
Shutters have "casing," although it's not entirely clear to me how the casing would work in your case.
You can install the shutters within the window frame (called an inside mount), or **on hanging strips installed on the window** casing or wall (called an ...

I'm encouraged by the comment from idoia_e. But I've looked for some way to further specify the book-style shutters. Indoors, it's no problem: they are called "plantation shutters." Outdoors, the best I can find is "Bahama shutters" or "Colonial shutters," which are American terms.

Oops! The Bahama shutters are attached at the top. So the only possibility I could find is "colonial shutters." The fact is, we usually use "shutters" unspecified. So for your text, assuming they are outdoors, I would say "ordinary exterior shutters or rollable shutters, with the case facing the inside" If the shutters were indoors, it would be "rollable blinds or plantation shutters," but then the case part wouldn't make sense.

Bottom line: In the U.S., we say "shutters" for exterior shutters and "plantation shutters" for interior shutters. All interior/plantation shutters are the "librillo" style; exterior shutters can be "librillo" or the rolling style, but the rolling style is rare in the U.S., so "shutters" for us is understood to be the exterior "librillo" style.
