Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anybody knows (of) a headhunter or headhunting company working specifically in the language services sector.

I'd like to explore new possibilities as an in-house translator / language specialist / translation or localization manager across Europe. I know for sure some headhunters specialise in international career opportunities for other sectors such as engineering or energy, but I have no idea if others do the same for linguists.

The fate of an enterprise often depends on some really high-level specialists, who have indispensable experience in a certain field. This persons are no low-wage persons. So, there are headhunters because headhunters are needed and cover their fee.

On the other hand, very few enterprises spend a lot of time/energy/money in looking for linguists. They just hire one of the 999 persons who knock on their door daily. The selection is simple: languages, wage, personal impression.

Engineers are selected more carefully, e. g. "Please show us some photographs of the large bridges you've constructed so far, Mr bridge-building engineer." If one would select translators this careful way, many colleagues would never get a job: Sample translations in ProZ profiles and contributions in ProZ contests are clear proofs for the quality that some persons are able to deliver under optimal conditions.

Unfortunately Rolf, I agree with you. You described the current situation pretty well.

Still, I was hoping to find an exception to the rule.
