If I can bother you for a little advice….

I’m in my 40s and live in Thailand. I’ve worked as an EFL teacher, then as a proofreader and now as a translator (not, I imagine, an entirely novel trajectory.) If I can bother you for a little advice….

I’m in my 40s and live in Thailand. I’ve worked as an EFL teacher, then as a proofreader and now as a translator (not, I imagine, an entirely novel trajectory.) I’ve recently started working as a freelancer for one of the major banks, translating some of their research and forecasts and would like to develop a career from this so I’ve been thinking about doing another undergraduate degree, this time in Thai. Because of constraints of time and money, this would be from the Thai Open University, which offers three degrees which I thought might be appropriate. These are in law, economics and Thai studies, all of which are taught and assessed entirely in Thai. I understand that law and finance/business are two common specialisms (and obviously economics would be appropriate to my current work, though the material I have seen so far has all been non-technical) and all three are interesting enough to sustain me through a degree. So my question is: which, if any, of the degrees would be preferable from the point of view of a career in translation? My previous study was in philosophy, so can safely be ignored when considering careers.

Thanks for your help.
