About ProZ.com translation contests

Source texts are selected in a number of languages around a designated theme (ex. "sports", "children"). Contestants may translate any of the source texts into any language. Winners are selected by peers via a voting system. Only ProZ.com members can enter the contests. Non-members can rate and/or vote.

Contest winners are recognized on the contest pages and in their profiles. They also get certificates.

For more information, see the contest FAQ section.

Contest structure

The contest is divided into three different phases. During the submission phase, contestants translate any of the source texts into any language. Phase 2 and phase 3 depend on how many entries are submitted in a given pair.

Submission

Entries are accepted in phase 1. The submission period may continue into phase 2, at the discretion of the contest organizer, if the number of entries received is below the minimum (currently 3) required for a winner to be determined. (See related FAQ for more information)

Feedback

If a pair has fewer than 3 entries, no winner will be selected; feedback is enabled for the benefit of the contestants.

Qualification round voting

If enough entries are submitted, the language pair will go into qualification round voting before going into final round voting.

Final round voting

A final round of voting, usually between 3 and 7 entries.

Grand prize

The winner of the grand prize, an all-expenses-paid trip to a ProZ.com conference, will be selected from a drawing of all contest winners. More information on how winners are selected is available in the FAQ.

We appreciate very much your efforts and we would like to thank you for your beautiful idea of ProZ.com translation contests.

It was fun to translate [the contest source text] because it presents a certain idea or principle in many different ways (and words) and thereby reveals whether the translator has full command of his/her target language.
